CONCEPT OF HOMOEOPATHY
Homoeopathy = Homeopathy
Both spellings are used in the world.
Homoeopathy is a Greek word where “homoeo” means similar and “pathos” means suffering. In this way, Homoeopathy may be defined as a therapeutic method of symptom–similarity.
Homoeopathy is a medicinal treatment system in which substance that causes symptoms of the disease on healthy human beings would cure similar symptoms in sick people.
Homoeopathy is a natural medicinal system i.e quality of medicine is stable. The efficacy of the medicine is not changed. They act the same as 200 years ago. For example, Lycopodium and Arsenic album give result now as when DrHhahnemann proved it.
VIEW OF DR A.P.J.ABDUL KALAM( Missile man of India, Bharat Ratna, Atomic scientist and former president of India)
Indeed homoeopathic treatment in many parts of the world is very popular expert in the field. it can get from the internet.
WHO DISCOVERED HOMOEOPATHY?
Christian Friedrich Sameul Hahnemann discovered homoeopathy. He born on 10 April 1755 in Germany and died on 2nd July 1843. He was M.D in modern medicine. modern medicine is also known as allopathy. The term allopathy is given by Dr. Hahnemann in 1810. He was M.D from Erlangen University in 1779. He was a great chemist. He knew near about a dozen languages. During the practice of 9 years, He dissatisfied with modern medicine, and finally, he resigns from modern medical practice and further he devoted himself to literary work for the support of his family. After the hard work of 6 years in 1796, He discovered Homoeopathy.
WHAT WAS THE CAUSE? DR HAHNEMANN DISCARD MODERN MEDICINE PRACTICE?
During practice, Dr. Hahnemann found that medicine of that time cure one disease and produce more new incurable diseases so he gradually becomes dissatisfied. Dr. Hahnemann told that “ I could not conscientiously treat the unknown morbid conditions of my sufferings which being very active substances ( unless applied with the most rigorous exactness which the physician can not exercise because their peculiar effects not yet been examined ) so easily occasion death or producing new affections and chronic maladies of more difficult to remove than the original diseases.
Summary: He wants to know how medicine acts? How medicine produce new complicated diseases?
Why could not treat patients without the harmful side effects of medicine? He wants to know a satisfactory explanation for this problem. In this way, He dissatisfied and discard modern medical practice.
HOW DR HAHNEMANN DISCOVERED HOMOEOPATHY?
Here a question Dr. Hahnemann left practice then how discovered a new medical system?
Dr. Hahnemann discovered homoeopathy by chance because He resigned from medical practice and doing another job. When Dr. Hahnemann was translating Cullen”s materia medica in English to German language. In that materia medica, it was written that” Cinchona bark cured malaria because of its bitterness and tonic effect on the stomach” Dr. Hahnemann was not satisfied by this explanation of cinchona bark action.
For satisfactory explanation, Dr. Hahnemann again interested in the medical field. He took cinchona bark juice himself 4 drams (drops) daily for a few days and He felt great surprising similar symptoms. He did similar experiments on himself and other individuals with other medicines whose curative action in certain diseases had been well known. During this experiment, he found that in healthy person medicine produce very similar symptoms of diseased persons. In this way, Dr. Hahnemann discovered a similar – symptom based medical system which is known as Homoeopathy.
Further, Dr. Hahnemann has done hard work on homoeopathy 46 years till death.
During modern medicine practice he found that active substance of medicine produced harmful side effect and uncurable new diseases .
After discovery of homoeopathy Dr Hahnemann selected remedies homeopathically —means like could be cured by like but He used them in the usual form and in ordinary dose, large does as allopathy. But he came to notice that cure in many cases proceeded violent aggravation of symptoms and consequently more sufferings of the patient; and in more cases, definite injury to the patient occurred without desired recovery of the patient.
After the discovery of homeopathy, the problem was the same as before. Medicines also produced a harmful side effect as aggravation Then Dr. Hahnemann thought that if the amount of active substance( Dose) of medicine diminished, it may not produce harmful side effect and finally to avoid excessive aggravation Dr. Hahnemann decided to diminish the dose which results after ingestion of medicinal dose and developed the concept of minimum dose. In 1798 for remittent fever he used Arnica root in several grains, Ignatia 2 to 3 grains, opium 1/5 to ½ grains. In 1799 He advocated very small doses called infinitesimal doses. He mentioned the use of an Arsenic album in 1/10 the million part of a grain.
During further practice life, Dr. Hahnemann diminishing the dose and increasing the dilution and finally declared “the theory of drug dynamization” for preparation of minimum dose in the 5th edition of” organon of medicine” (1833).
WHAT IS DRUG DYNAMYSATION OR DRUG POTENTISATION?
Minimum dose of medicine obtain by this theory.
WHAT IS ORGANON OF MEDICINE?
Organon of medicine is a book written by Dr. Hahnemann in the German language. this book contains the governing principle of homoeopathy . It has two parts theoretical and practical. Everything is written in this book like drug and disease knowledge, drug proving, the theory of chronic disease, theory of vital force, theory of dynamization, knowledge of medicinal power, preparation of medicine, knowledge of case taking, knowledge of dose, etc. 5th and 6th edition of this book is most popular.
The term ‘organon’ was first used by Aristotle(384—312 B.C.) Further Lord Bacon(1561—1626 A.D.) wrote a book ‘novum organum’—– in this book Lord bacon wrote about inductive logic to science research.
These two must-have influenced Hahnemann to name his book organon. Dr. Hahnemann was influenced by the inductive philosophy of Bacon.
WHAT IS FRIENDS OF HEALTH?
“Friend of health is a book” written by Dr Hahnemann before the discovery of homoeopathy in 1792. this book consists of a series of short essays on Hygenic matter in volume 1. various criteria regarding good health, bad cholesterol and good cholesterol mentioned in this book.
WHAT IS PRINCIPLE OF HOMOEOPATHY?
Concluded as:-
“ Similia similibus curantur”
“Likes cure likes”
As we know
“Diamond cut diamond”
Hippocrates (460–377 BC) who is the father of medicine stated the law of similia several times in his teaching.
“ By a similar things a disease is produced and through the application of like is cured”
WHAT IS TINCTURE?
Tincture typically an extract of plant or animal material dissolved in ethyl alcohol. solvent concentration may vary 25% to 90 % according to requirement.
WHAT IS MOTHER TINCTURE?
The mother tincture is a drug pharmaceutically prepared from the drug substance of vegetable and animal kingdom using strong alcohol as a vehicle ( solvent) by the process of immersion, maceration, and percolation.
Simply mother tincture refers to a simple combination of a botanical extract with a specific amount of alcohol.
The active substance ( active ingredient ) of the medicinal plants like Alkaloids, resinoids, Glycosides present in mother tinctures in colloidal form. The size of an active substance (active ingredient) is equal to a nanoparticle because the size of colloidal particles equal to nanoparticles.
Example:
- Aconitne found In Aconitum napellus
- Atropine found in belladonna
- Quinidine found in china off
- Colchicines found I colchicum autumnal
- Codeine found in opium

- Podophyllin found in podophyllum
- Colocynthin found in colocynthis
- Digitalin found in digitalis
Designation of mother tincture: it is denoted as Q.
Drug power of mother tincture: The drug of mother tincture is also known as the strength of the drug. It means the amount of the drug in proportion to its solvent. it indicates the proportion of the drug contained in the medicinal preparation e.g DP- 1/6 , it means in total 6 parts – 1 part is medicinal substance and 5 parts are solvents( vehicle)
WHAT IS MOTHER SOLUTION?
It is the drug pharmaceutically prepared from the drug substance of mineral and chemical source as the strong alcoholic solvent by process dissolving in alcohol or purified water.
WHAT IS MOTHER SUBSTANCE?
It is the drug pharmaceutically prepared from the drug substance of any source insoluble in liquid vehicle.
WHAT IS VEHICLE?
The term vehicles mean’ to carry ‘
It acts as solvent, diluents, preserving agent, and medium for the administration of medicine.
Vehicles are almost chemically neutral (neither acidic nor alkaline), therapeutically inert. they have no medicinal properties (if there is any that is negligible) but they are intended to carry the dynamic power of a drug safely to the interior of the human organism to fight the disease force.
They are the medium for purification, preparation, preservation, internal administration – either by oral or olfaction rout and external application as the case may be.
Utility of vehicles:
- For the preparation of mother tincture, mother solution, mother substance from crude drug material.
- Used to further trituration and potentisation.
- Used as the base for preparing external application of medicine.
- Preservation of medicines. A vehicle like alcohol is mixed in a certain proportion with the freshly expressed juice of the plants
- For dispensing of the medicines to the patients as a physician’s prescription.
Some example of vehicle:
- Sugar of milk (lactose) ….Prepared from goat milk and used in form of powder.
- Cane sugar(lactose)…… prepared from sugar cane and beetroot.
- Globules… prepared from pure cane sugar and sugar beet.
- Tablets or tabloids
- Purified water
- Alcohol
- Rectified spirit
- Glycerine
WHAT IS THE DRUG?
The drug is defined as any substance is used to modify the physiological system or pathological states for the benefit of the recipients.
WHAT IS DRUG PROVING?
Drug proving is a systemic investigation of pathogenetic ( disease-producing) power of medicine( hence disease curing power also) on the healthy human being of different ages both sexes and of various constitutions. These recordings of drug proving form only the reliable knowledge of medicines which are very much essential to cure diseases homeopathically.
WHAT IS MEDICINE?
The art or science of treating disease with drug or curative substances.
WHAT IS REMEDY?
When a particular medicine is prescribed for a particular diseased condition according to symptom similarity . the medicine is called remedy of particular disease.
WHAT IS DILUTION?
Dilution is a process of decreasing the concentration of solute in solution usually simply by mixing with more solvent like to add more water to a solution .To dilute a solution means to add more solvent without addition of more solute.
WHAT IS POTENCY?
Potency denotes power which obtain by process of potentisation. In potency, the inherent property of the dilute substance is brought into the light. During potentisation, dynamic power and qualitative power are increased.
Potency( power in the sense of ability, capacity) denotes power which is derived by the grade of medicinal power as developed by the process of dynamisation is called homoeopathic potencies in different grades.
Potency means dilution plus energy.
They are the result of a series of successive dilution followed by trituration and succussion
In other words, homoeopathic potencies are the result of a series of successive reduction in the concentration of the basic medicinal substance by dynamisation.
