What are kidney stones?
Kidney stones or renal calculi are solid masses made of calcium oxalate, magnesium salt, and uric acid salt crystals.
Where they can develop?
- Kidneys
- Ureters
- Bladder
- Urinary bladder
- Urethra
Symptoms
- Sudden pain in the lower part of the back, which go to the groin and testis
- Vomiting
- Frequently urination
- Burning in urethra
- Fever and chills
- Blood in urine
- Urines comes out drop by drop
- Generally pain last 2 hours then gradually subside
Investigation
- About 90% of stones are seen on a plain abdominal x-ray.
- When stone in the ureter – IVU (Intravenous urogram).
- Ultrasound and C.T.
Management
- Bed rest and application of warmth to the site of pain.
- Do exercise on daily basis (morning walk for at least 30-45mins).
